Hi guys!
So, this week I decided to embark on a somewhat "crazy" experiment. So crazy infact, that I didnt actually realise how crazy it was until I had already committed to it.
I gave up refined sugar.
Yup, that delicious white stuff that tastes good in anything? I gave it the flick. Now, to some, this would be an easy experiment to undergo. I am not one of those people. This was what my pantry looked like before Monday;
(and this isn't including the fridge & freezer supplies) Needless to say, it was at this point that I realized somethings gotta give. Ever since I found out about baby number two I have been more than a little lenient with my sugar intake. Every single night was a feast of sugar and I was waking up feeling lethargic and low on energy every morning. It was horrible. Yet, I would do it again and again, it was as if a switch was flicked immediately after dinner and I just HAD to have something sweet. I've spoken to a few of my friends about this habit and it seems to be quite a trend amongst my peers. The after dinner binge is shockingly common!
So today marks day 4 without the white stuff and I seriously do not remember the last time in my entire adult life that I have gone this long without something sweet. I have found it to be easy between the hours of 6am-7pm, after 7pm however, is a completely different story. Its as if the full moon has come out and my teeth are bared and my claws are out, scrambling to get my mits on something sweet and satisfying. So far, peanut butter and banana have been my saviors. I have also eaten my weight in strawberries which I have found to be really filling. But on the whole I am feeling a lot better! I have way more energy, there's no afternoon slump where I would often feel like I was running out of gas, my skin is loads better (despite my pregnancy acne which I will cover in my next post) and I wake up with a spring in my step.
It looks like someone else is also enjoying the endless strawberries this week;
Yes that is strawberries in her hair. Babies are weird.
Now this isn't going to be a permanent lifestyle change for me. Especially considering we are going on holiday in 2 days, and in my opinion there is no such thing as clean eating on holiday. This is just a bit of a detox, I am in no way ready to give up refined sugar for good- I am pregnant after all and if you can't get away with it now when can you? However, I would like to cut it down to once or twice a week rather than an every night event. So I will keep you updated with my progress and let you know how I am getting on with that.
Has anyone else given up sugar and found it to be a challenge? Do you find yourself reaching for something sweet every night aswel? Let me know!
Meanwhile, I could murder some peanut M n M's right now.
Thought of the day;
"only 3 more days, 3 more days..."
Ciao, G x

Starting Fresh
Hi everyone!! Welcome to my blog.
This is somewhat of a HUGE day for me, this blog has been itching to hit the cyber world for a few months now and I am completely and utterly excited to start and share this new journey with you all. I will firstly warn everyone that I am what you may call a blogging ammature. But I firmly believe that practice makes perfect and hopefully I get the hang of all the inserts/ links and other jargon in no time.
I will start off by introducing myself and my family and letting you know what to expect from this blog.
I am Gemma, a young mum hailing from the beautiful Mount Maunganui New Zealand. (see below)
But we are currently residing in Perth Australia. The land of sunshine, sea & sharks.
You'll find my partner popping up here and there, his name is Oli- he is absolutely wonderful and I count myself lucky to have him every single day.
And lastly you will probably see a fair bit of this cheeky girl;
This is my 1 year old daughter, the most precious little poppet in all the land. As any mothers may know, babies are quite time consuming, so she will probably be appearing most days in one way or another (hopefully mostly with a smile on her face). But she will not be the only hot topic...
I'm going to cover most day to day ramblings of my life as a stay at home (pregnant again!) mum. Aswel as, weekly pregnancy updates, good books, recipes, workouts, opinions, random thoughts, music preferences, and most likely a few rants here and there.
My aim for you is to be open and honest, helpful (hopefully?), and possibly even inspiring if my antics tickle your fancy. For me, it is to have a place to go to share my thoughts, vent and hopefully get some advice from any lovely readers along the way.
I'm looking forward to exploring this blogging world and sharing my life with you all, so WELCOME!
I will finish this off with a reoccuring snippet that I would like to add to the end of every one of my posts, the 'thought of the day'
"I have no idea what I am doing, but I am loving it already"
*I also happen to have a song of the day today, "Feeling Good" by Muse, it happened to play on my playlist right before I sat down to write this and I felt it hit the spot. Can never go wrong with a bit of Muse I always say,
