Hi everyone, how's your weekend going??
We've had a good one thus far... We had Blakes little friend Kaidens first birthday party yesterday which included some delicious cupcakes!! I ate a bit too much actually, but luckily I threw my gears into the car for the trip home, so we stopped off at Jacobs ladder and I did a quick 5 laps on those stairs to make up for it. Killer. Today will probably involve a whole lotta nothing, maybe the NRL grand final (if I have too), and definitely a big roast at the end of the day... Highlight!
So for months and months prior to Blakes 1st birthday, I had been SO excited for her Cake Smash photoshoot back in NZ. My friend Natalie is an incredible photographer and traditionally does them for first birthdays. Alas- fate was not kind to us that trip, Blake picked up a nasty gastro bug and we didnt end up doing it. I was really devastated as I really wanted some good photos to blow up and put on the wall. Instead I was elbow deep in vom & poo for 7 days! Not ideal... But I figured I'll just look into it over in Perth and do a shoot here. After getting 5 quotes which averaged to roughly $700+ (!!!!!!) I quickly decided I'm going to tackle this myself!!
Mum gave me a snazzy Canon camera back in NZ, which takes pretty amazing pics so that was step 1 covered.
Next I collected a few items;
-A tutu skirt for Blake (which she actually got as a gift for her bday anyway)
-Fake pearl necklaces
-Big feather boa
-A white sheet
-Bunting
-And a cake!!
For the cake I just grabbed two sponges from the supermarket and lathered them with cream and sprinkles - easy peasy!
I made sure I timed it so Blake had just woken up and was in a chipper mood, then I got her in her outfit, laid the sheet out, and got the cake together. And voila! That's it. I got some really good snaps which I'm stoked about, but if I were to do it again I would definitely do it with someone else there so they can distract Blake and make her smile etc... It was a bit hard juggling that + quickly trying to take the snaps. Anyway- here are some of the final products;
(Oh and I edited them afterward just to brighten them up too)
So for any other mums with a semi decent camera, screw paying hundreds of dollars, try it yourself!!
Happy Sunday
Gemma
